One of the most famous paintings Italian artist Paolo Veronese "Lamentation of Christ".
This type of image of this story was a well-known Venetian painting in the XV century: the dead Christ is portrayed sitting on the edge of the sarcophagus, or, as on the canvas of Veronese, the burial shroud. Almost always, Jesus was supported by grieving angels, or Mary and John. During the life of the Veronese painting was engraved by Agostino caracci.
